美国环境保护署(Environmental Protection Agency, EPA)将挥发性有机物(volatile organic compounds, VOCs)定义为除CO、CO2、H2CO3、金属碳化物、金属碳酸盐和碳酸铵外任何参加大气光化学反应的碳化合物。世界卫生组织(World Health Organization, WHO)将VOCs定义为熔点低于室温而沸点在50~260 ℃之间的挥发性有机化合物的总称。我国GB 50325—2001《民用建筑工程室内环境污染控制规范》定义VOCs为可参加气相光化学反应的有机化合物[1]。VOCs种类繁多, 按其化学结构不同可分为烷类、芳烃类、烯类、卤烃类、酯类、醛类、酮类和其他[2]。
VOCs的排放源包括植物等自然源造成的萜烯和异戊二烯类化合物等排放[3], 以及由机动车、喷涂和工业过程等溶剂的使用和燃烧等人为源造成的有机污染物排放[4]。空气中的VOCs参与光化学反应产生臭氧污染[5]和细粒子污染[6]等环境问题, 是光化学烟雾[7]和雾霾[8]形成的前体物, 部分VOCs具有毒性以及致癌、致畸和致突变等健康效应[9]。因此, VOCs的污染问题引起了国内外研究者的广泛关注, 成为近年来的研究热点之一。
20世纪40—50年代美国洛杉矶光化学烟雾事件的发生引起人们对VOCs的广泛关注。20世纪70年代以来, 世界各地广泛开展了VOCs的来源解析[10]、环境行为[11]和健康效应[12]、监测技术[13]以及污染特征[14]的研究, 我国也相继对许多城市的污染状况展开研究[15-18], 鉴于VOCs的采样与监测技术的差异性, 目前我国各城市VOCs污染特征对比分析的研究较少。笔者在总结全球VOCs在环境中的源与汇研究的基础上, 比较了当前热点的VOCs监测技术, 分析归纳了我国现有的相关环境管理标准与技术规范, 对我国近年来研究的城市大气VOCs的污染特征进行归纳和对比, 以期为我国大气环境管理以及城市VOCs污染治理提供科学依据。
1 室外大气中VOCs的源与汇室外大气VOCs的来源分为自然源与人为源[19]。在全球尺度上, 自然源VOCs排放量远高于人为源, 研究表明自然源排放量贡献了VOCs总排放量的91.9%, 而人为源排放量仅占VOCs总排放量的8.1%[20]。但人为活动密集的区域, 人类活动的增加导致人为源排放量超过自然源[21]。研究发现, 我国自然源和人为源VOCs排放量分别占到总排放量的54.03%和45.97%[22], 尤其是在高度城市化和工业化的珠江三角洲地区, 人为源VOCs排放量是自然源的3倍多[23]。WEI等[24]估算中国人为源VOCs排放量将从2005年的19.4 Tg持续增长到2020年的25.9 Tg。
1.1 VOCs的自然源VOCs的自然源主要来自植物释放、火山喷发和森林火灾, 其中植物释放是最重要的释放源[25]。GUENTHER等在1996[26]和2000年[27]分别对美国东南部和北美地区VOCs自然源排放的研究表明, 植物释放占自然源VOCs总释放量的98%, 其中异戊二烯和单萜烯组分对总VOCs的贡献分别为44%和11%, 同时发现不同组分的排放量有显著的空间差异。如LI等[28]、KIM等[29]和LEE等[30]对比了中国南部和东南亚地区VOCs的时空变化数据, 结果表明异戊二烯主要来自中国南方的阔叶林和灌木, 而东南亚地区覆盖大面积的针叶林则是单萜烯主要的释放来源, 树种差异是植物释放VOCs组成不同的主要原因。此外, 植物叶龄也是影响VOCs释放速率的因素之一。2005年KIM等[31]以植物叶龄为研究目标, 认为中龄树种对VOCs的贡献更大。2004年PEÑUELAS等[32]的研究认为除了树种差异和叶龄等植物内部因素外, 温度、光照以及外界胁迫等环境因素也是影响VOCs释放速率的主要因素。2007年PINTO等[33]证明了当植物受到草食动物、昆虫、人工扰动等外界胁迫的干扰时, 会增加植物VOCs的释放。2010年HOLOPAINEN等[34]的研究认为植物VOCs释放受多重应激因素的影响, 高温、高光都会增加VOCs释放, 夏季温度和太阳辐射都很高使得植物VOCs排放量在夏季最大, 冬季最小。
1.2 VOCs的人为源20世纪90年代TERMONIA等[35]对生活垃圾填埋场的调查结果表明, 菇烯、苯等VOCs的排放是气味滋扰居民的主要原因。除垃圾填埋场外, VOCs还有很多重要的人为排放源, 如1998年MILLS等[36]的研究表明溶剂使用以及发电厂等工业过程是VOCs的重要来源。JAARS等[37]对南非苯系物人为源的研究也有类似发现, 认为金属冶炼厂、石化行业和燃煤电厂都是苯系物的重要来源, 其中甲苯是最丰富的组分。国内也进行了相关的研究, WEI等[38]以北京石油炼精厂为研究对象, 进一步指出工业过程中的生产过程反应、化石燃料燃烧、原料的储存和运输等是苯系物的主要释放途径, 并且认为石化生产过程是某些区域非甲烷总烃(non-methane hydrocarbon, NMHCs)最大的排放来源。FAUSER等[39]和YUAN等[40]的研究表明, 溶剂使用主要释放正己烷和苯系物。燃烧排放也是全球VOCs重要的排放来源, 如1999年LOBERT等[41]发布的全球生物质燃烧排放含氯挥发性有机物的清单中指出二氯甲烷和三氯甲烷的主要排放源是生物质燃烧。也有学者直接提出燃烧排放是一些地区VOCs最大的排放源, 如SHARMA等[42]发布的2010年印度人为源非甲烷挥发性有机物(non-methane volatile organic compounds, NMVOCs)的排放清单表明生物质燃烧占60%, 溶剂使用和石油占20%, 运输占12%, 农业残留物露天燃烧占7%, 其中烯烃和炔烃对总VOCs的贡献为38%, 其次是烷烃(22%)和芳香族化合物(16%)。在中国ZHANG等[43]和WANG等[44]分别对珠江三角洲和长江三角洲排放来源的研究发现, 燃烧排放主要包括生物质燃烧和煤炭燃烧, 主要释放低碳烷烃、烯烃和苯系物。
随着中国经济迅速发展, 尤其是近年来我国汽车保有量大幅增长, 机动车尾气排放逐渐成为我国最重要的人为排放源。2006年陆思华等[45]运用化学质量平衡模型(CMB8.0)对中国大气VOCs源解析的结果表明:汽车尾气是最大的人为排放源, 占总排放量的61.7%。汽油车和柴油车尾气以苯系物、烷烃、烯烃为主, 实施车辆排放标准会显著降低VOCs的贡献。ZHANG等[46]对2005—2011年北京夏季VOCs排放的研究结果表明, 实施汽车减排后戊烷、苯、甲苯呈现明显下降趋势。WANG等[47]也对北京2004—2012年人为VOCs排放量进行调查, 认为在奥运会期间实施具体的车辆控制措施后, 汽车尾气和汽油蒸发对VOCs浓度的相对贡献下降66%, 因此减少与运输有关的VOCs排放对降低总VOCs排放十分有效。综上所述, 目前室外大气VOCs主要的人为源有机动车排放、溶剂的使用、燃烧排放和工业过程等。主要人为源排放的典型VOCs种类见表 1。
VOCs在大气中的去除主要包括发生化学反应和转化生成有机气溶胶2个途径[49]75-76。2003年JENKIN等[50]以对流层大气VOCs为研究对象, 认为大气中VOCs最重要的反应是在气相中通过与羟基自由基(或较小程度上的臭氧、硝酸根和卤素自由基)发生的光化学氧化。2005年LEWIS等[51]研究北大西洋空气中丙酮、甲醇和乙醛的源和汇时也有类似发现, 即气相有机物可以吸收阳光从而分解为较小的物质。干法和湿法沉积也是大气VOCs有效的物理去除方式, 如FORNARO等[52]在2003年对巴西圣保罗雨季大气化学的研究中证明了湿沉积是大气中一些VOCs的去除方式; 2004年DOSKEY等[53]的研究认为干法沉积在草原空气表面交换中起到重要作用。2010年KARL等[54]对生态系统尺度通量测量的结果表明干沉降可以去除大量VOCs, 并且指出生物圈是VOCs主要的源与汇。此外, VOCs也可通过转化或沉积到气溶胶表面而去除。COUSINS等[55]利用蒸气压与辛醇空气分配系数的经验关联式计算了多氯联苯、烷烃和多环芳烃等转化为气溶胶的能力。CLAEYS等[56]的研究表明, 吸附在气溶胶相的VOCs也可能进一步发生氧化反应。另外, KUHN等[57]的研究表明直接生物摄取也可以有效地去除大气中的一些VOCs。VOCs的去除速率(寿命)与它们和自由基的反应速率、光解速率和干湿沉积速率有关, 对流层VOCs的寿命在数小时到数月之间[49]76-77。
2 大气VOCs的监测技术 2.1 大气VOCs的离线技术离线技术具有可多点同时采样以及进行VOCs区域分布规律研究的特点。表 2对常用离线技术的优缺点进行了比较。早在1984年HUTTE等[58]用吸附剂吸附汽车尾气和周围空气, 用气相色谱法来分析预浓缩后的样品, 检测结果精确到0.02 nL·L-1级。目前监测VOCs的常用采样方法除吸附采样外, 还有气袋采样、罐采样等直接采样方式。如我国在1999年测定NMHCS的标准方法中是用注射器或铝箔复合薄膜气袋进行采样, 用气相色谱法进行分析。气相色谱法(GC)以其高效能、高选择性、高灵敏度等优点成为目前VOCs应用范围十分广泛的一种分离分析方法。通常与气相色谱联用进行VOCs分析的检测器有氢火焰离子检测器(FID)、电子捕获检测器(ECD)和光离子检测器(PID)。如JANG等[59]、ZHANG等[60]和LIU等[61]用3种不同检测器分析大气中VOCs的结果表明, FID多用于分析C2~C4之间非甲烷总烃组分; ECD由于其可释放正离子流, 因此对过氧化物以及卤代烃中带负电元素的组分具有高选择性和高灵敏度, 检出限高于FID; PID对不饱和烃监测灵敏度非常高, 因此为苯系物监测首选的检测器。但这些检测器选择性强, 仅对某类特征化合物有响应, 而质谱检测器是通用型检测器, 自HOLMES和MORRELL首次实现气相色谱与质谱联用后, 气质联机技术日臻完善。LIU等[62]、RAS等[63]和WANG等[64]分别用GC/MS对不同地区空气中VOCs进行检测, 获得了高质量数据, 检测限体积分数可达10-12量级。常用的VOCs分析方法还有高效液相色谱法。ALLWOODA等[65]将高效液相色谱法应用于植物代谢组分分析中, 分离效率和检测灵敏度都很高。液相色谱法和气相色谱法相比不受试样的挥发性和热稳定性限制, 目前液相色谱法主要应用于含氧挥发性有机物(oxygenated volatile organic compounds, OVOCs)的分析检测。但是, 在对组分更为复杂的体系下进行分析时, 传统的一维色谱不仅费时, 而且易出现峰重叠, 高效液相色谱-气相色谱联用(HPLC-GC)、气相色谱-质谱联用(GC-MS)以及中心切割式二维色谱(GC-GC)对其多组分体系的分离更为有效[66]。20世纪90年代LIU和PHILLIPS提出的全二维气相色谱(GC×GC)方法将分离机理不同而又互相独立的2支色谱柱以串联方式结合起来, 提供了一种真正的正交分离系统, 具有峰容量大、灵敏度高、分析时间短以及大大增强了定性可靠性等优点[67], 该技术对于复杂体系的分离逐渐受到关注。
由于离线技术时间分辨率低, 对大气VOCs的时间变化规律及大气污染变化过程方面的研究缺乏优势, 因此近年来在线连续自动监测技术逐步发展起来。表 3比较了常用在线技术的优缺点。MALEKNIA等[68]的研究结果表明质子转移质谱(proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometry, PTR-MS)是在线监测植物排放VOCs的可靠定量技术, 但该技术在区分同分异构体方面存在困难; HIROSHI等[69]采用飞行时间质谱(time of flight mass spectrometry, TOFMS)在线监测大气中VOCs能够更好地区分同分异构体, 响应时间约1 min, 乙醛、丙酮、苯、甲苯和二甲苯的检测限都达到了10-9量级, 但其分辨率和灵敏度的提升是未来TOFMS研究的热点; 而激光光谱技术(tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, TDLAS)大大提高了灵敏度, LACKNER[70]的研究表明, TDLAS可在检测时间1 s内实现10-6至10-9量级的检测; KETOLA等[71]将热解析与傅里叶变换红外光谱法技术(fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, FTIR)结合, 不仅实现了同分异构体的区分, 且具有速度快、分辨率高等优点; CERCELARU等[72]用差分吸收光谱技术(differential optical absorption spectroscopy, DOAS)对罗马尼亚蒂米什瓦拉空气中VOCs进行分析取得了良好的效果, 不仅可定性确定某些化合物组分的存在, 还可精确定量该组分的含量, 在测量VOCs方面主要用于甲醛和单环芳烃的分析。此外, 目前常用的在线技术还有在线气相色谱(在线GC-FID/PID)、在线气相色谱-质谱/氢火焰离子化检测器(在线GC-MS/FID)以及气相色谱-还原气体检测器(GC-RGD)等[73-75], 这些技术将样品的采集预处理过程和分析过程直接联合, 缩短了采样和预处理时间。
20世纪末期我国出台了固定汚染源排气中甲醇、氯乙烯、乙醛、丙烯醛、丙烯腈以及非甲烷总烃测定的标准方法, 使用100 mL注射器或铝箔复合薄膜气袋采集VOCs气体, 用氢火焰离子检测器测定。2010年苯系物测定方法中增加了固相吸附/热脱附的预处理步骤, 在常温条件下用填充聚2, 6-二苯基对苯醚采样管富集环境空气中的苯系物, 提高了分析的灵敏度, 降低了检出限, 且分析成本较低, 成为我国目前VOCs监测中较常用的方法。2013年关于VOCs的测定中引入了气相色谱-质谱联用法, VOCs经气相色谱分离后, 用质谱进行检测, 进一步降低了检出限, 且定性能力强, VOCs检测种类增加到35种。2014年我国又引入液相色谱法来测定环境空气中醛、酮类化合物, 使用高效液相色谱仪的紫外(360 nm)或二极管阵列检测器检测, 对OVOCs测量效果好。2015年我国借鉴美国TO系列标准方法中的TO-14和TO-15标准方法, 制定了罐采样/气相色谱-质谱法, 用内壁惰性化处理的不锈钢罐采集环境空气样品, 经冷阱浓缩、热解析后, 进入气相色谱分离, 用质谱检测器进行检测, 目前用GC/MS法已经可以检测到67种VOCs, 气相色谱-质谱法(GC/MS)逐渐成为我国VOCs分析中应用相对较多的测量手段。表 4列出了我国现有的VOCs监测方法。
目前国内关于VOCs污染特征的研究主要集中在长江三角洲、珠江三角洲等区域和京津冀等经济发达、人口密集城市群, 表 5中列举了近几年我国典型城市或地区大气中VOCs的污染特征, 主要报道了检测VOCs种类数、主要VOCs种类以及监测期间城市VOCs的浓度范围和平均浓度。
在检出的VOCs种类方面, 我国城市大气中检出的VOCs多达108种, 各城市主要的VOCs种类包括烷烃、烯烃、炔烃、卤代烃、芳香烃、含硫化合物以及醇类、酮类、醚类和酯类等含氧VOCs。北京、天津、南京、上海和广州烷烃含量很高, 约占总VOCs的20%~50%, 多以C3~C4、正己烷、正庚烷为主, 其次是芳香烃、烯烃和炔烃, 分别占总VOCs的10%~20%左右, 其中上海和广州甲苯、乙苯、二甲苯等苯系物含量较高, 约占总VOCs的20%~30%左右。辽宁省排放较多的VOCs污染物是苯系物和氯代烷烃, 其中铁冶炼(48.8%)和焦炭生产行业(37.7%)中的卤化烃在总VOCs排放中所占比例较大。而重庆、武汉大气含量最丰富的VOCs物种是烯烃组分, 约占到区域总VOCs的50%左右, 其次是C2~C5烷烃、芳香烃和乙炔, 卤代烃占比最小。
在浓度释放水平方面, 各地区VOCs污染水平存在显著差异, 北京、天津、辽宁VOCs污染水平最高, 其次是南京、上海、广州, 武汉和重庆VOCs污染水平较低, 总VOCs浓度范围在5~305 nL·L-1之间不等。北京、天津等华北地区城市监测期间VOCs浓度范围在14.4~305.0 nL·L-1之间, 平均浓度在43.7~84.5 nL·L-1范围内; 辽宁省监测期间VOCs浓度范围在10 917~19 652 μg·m-3之间; 上海和广州等地区VOCs浓度范围在5~126 nL·L-1之间, 平均浓度在29.0~63.6 nL·L-1之间; 武汉和重庆等地区VOCs浓度范围在27.0~68.0 nL·L-1之间, 平均浓度在24.3~45.1 nL·L-1之间。
从释放来源的分析方面, VOCs污染源主要有机动车排放、油品挥发、燃料燃烧和工业过程。交通源在各城市城区及各个季节贡献均很大, 占总VOCs的30%~50%, 但是重庆、武汉地区机动车保有量远低于北京、上海、南京等大型城市, 因此交通源排放对重庆、武汉主城区的影响小于其他大型城市。其他源受各季节的环境因素的影响表现出不同的变化, 在夏季, 各类排放源的挥发作用较强, 因此涂料和溶剂使用以及LPG泄漏的贡献率均高于春、秋两季, 油品挥发的平均源贡献在40%左右。区域内及区域周边的秸秆燃烧现象集中发生在秋季, 因此秋季生物质燃烧的贡献率明显高于其他季节, 占到总排放源的10%~20%。而火力发电厂、钢铁厂、焦化厂等高耗能产业是重工业基地辽宁省主要的VOCs释放来源, 占总排放源的50%以上。污染源排放必然是导致高VOCs污染城市的主要原因, 但是采样期间气象条件的影响也不容忽视, 天津地区冬季调查期间正值主导风向西南风, 各化工企业所排放的VOCs物质在大气输送作用下对天津市中心城区环境空气质量有着重要影响, 导致天津地区VOCs污染浓度最高。
4 研究展望(1) 大气VOCs参与大气光化学反应产生臭氧、过氧乙酰硝酸酯和二次有机气溶胶等二次污染物, 是光化学烟雾和雾霾形成的前体物。由于VOCs化合物种类多, 来源复杂, 因此开展城市大气VOCs的来源、转化及分布规律等方面的研究具有重要意义。
(2) VOCs监测技术的发展趋向于多样化、小型化、集成化。随着前处理设备、色谱材料与质谱技术的发展, VOCs在离线监测与在线技术方面都有着非常大的前景。吸附管与罐采集方式与气相色谱、质谱联用的方法逐步成熟; 与此同时, 结合顶空进样、固相微萃取前处理技术的在线、便携式VOCs的商业化设备在现场有机污染物快速筛查与定量分析上形成有效的补充, 尤其是固相微萃取探针材料的发展与质谱技术的结合, 可以实现超微量气体如香气、低阈值气体组分的辨识研究。近年来发展的全二维气相色谱分析方法(GC×GC)具有高峰容量和高分辨率, 对复杂基质中的未知污染物具有很好的定性鉴别能力, 在环境污染物的分析中具有非常广阔的应用前景。
(3) 当前我国自然背景区域下的VOCs研究较少, 典型城市大气VOCs相关监测数据还比较欠缺, 尤其针对我国人群呼吸暴露途径的风险评估研究鲜有报道, 因此未来开展人为活动密集区域的大气VOCs污染程度与时空污染特征的相关研究对于了解人群环境健康风险具有重要意义。
